If you haven’t already seen it, one of the most notable YouTuber’s known as MrBeast, made a video campaigning to plant 20,000,000 trees in 2019. The video he posted, here, has 49 Million views.
Jimmy Donaldson, AKA MrBeast, is a content creator with over 46 Million subscribers on YouTube. In 2019 he partnered with another large YouTuber, Mark Rober, with 14 million subscribers to achieve an insane goal. They worked together with the Arbor Day Foundation to plan 20 million trees. A website called Teamtrees.org, was used as the catalyst to do so. The Arbor Day foundation vows to plant 1 tree for every $1 donated on the website.
MrBeast and Mark Rober worked together and created a viral video to announce the ambitious movement. The video, now close to 50 million views, blew up seemingly instantly. Within a few hours other notable content creators such as Marquess Brownlee, and Marshmellow — both on YouTube — hopped on board and made videos also promoting the movement. Soon after, more and more social content creators joined in and made videos about the #TeamTrees project. The goal started as an idea his fans gave him according to MrBeast in his video, and he called the smartest person he knew, Mark Rober to help him with the project. Their video is full of entertaining and humorous content all to promote the planting of trees. In 1 day, MrBeast and several of his friends were able to plant 1,700 trees, showing how The Arbor Day foundation will be planting their trees with the donations the receive.
As of today, November 2020, over $22Million has been doated by 800,000 people to Team Trees and over 7 million trees have been planted so far. With the impact of so many online creators coming together to support a certain cause, the goal was hit just under two months from the initial video being posted. A simple concept lead by two people online with a large following were able to really make a global impact. The trees are being planted all over the world in on all seven continents.
